2000 Mazda 626
The 2000 Mazda 626 is part of the fifth generation of 626s debuted in 1998. For
the 2000 model two trim levels are available: the LX and the ES. There is a choice
of two engines: LX and ES come with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine rated at
125 horsepower. LX-V6 and ES-V6 come, as their name implies, with a 2.5-liter
V6 rated at 170 horsepower. Front side airbags became part of the option list,
included in an ABS option group. The four-cylinder engine gained five horsepower.
Anti-lock braking was optional across all trim levels including traction control
when installed in a V6 sedan.
The four cylinder LX featured 15-inch wheels while the ES-V6s 15 inch alloy
wheels were replaced with 16-inch ones. All models now had rear-seat heater ducts.
All trims come with a standard 5-speed manual transmission except the ES which
came with a standard automatic transmission. An automatic is an $800 option in
the other 626 models. Also, the 2000 model features a sharpened styling in both
front and rear. Sportier handling, steering and braking was also introduced. More
than 70 changes were made for the 2000 Mazda 626.
